Just about everyone has heard about Rocking Green. I had read about it on sooo many other cloth diapering blogs but passes it off as a fad. I was placing an order at an online cloth diaper retailer and was $.50 away from getting free shipping so I looked around and saw that they carried samples of Rockin Green for $.75. I ordered one. We were dealing with a super strong amonia smell and could NOT get rid of it no matter what I did. Sunning, vinegar, stripping the diapers...Nothing could get that horrid stink out. There was also this weird smell that stunk liked hair that had caught on fire (don't know where that came from). The first time we did a soak with that sample I was amazed! I had seen others pictures where the water was black and grey, all dingy like. In the back of my mind I though there was no way that could come from diapers! And then I looked into my washer and saw the grime and build up that came out of my diapers. I mean, this stuff was next to my baby's bum!
One of the things that I really like about Rockin Green is all the information they have about washing cloth diapers on their website. One thing that i never realized is that the hardness of your water can effect how much build up your diapers have and how well your laundry detergent will work. Here's a great map from the Rockin Green website that can help you determine what kind of water hardness you have. There is also a very informative FAQ's section to help you troubleshoot.
Here's a challenge for you. Go to your grocery store or any big box store and try to find the ingredients to a popular detergent. I haven't been able to find any. With Rockin Green, the ingredients are clearly labeled:
Ingredients: sodium carbonate , sodium percarbonate, natural chelating agents, sodium sulfate, biodegradable surfactants, natural fragrance oils (if scented is chosen)
For someone like me, who has kiddos with VERY sensitive skin, and who is concerned about what kind of things i bring into my house, the fact that the ingredients are on the label is a huge plus! I was concerned about the scents at first. Would they be strong? Would they irritate my little ones? But after Rockin Green sent me three sample packs to test out, I love the scents. I tried The Plain Green Teas and Lavender Mint Revival. Both were very subtle yet fresh when they came out of the wash. The scents don't mask the diaper stinkies, the formula that Rockin Green has created fixes them!
My husband "Rocked a Soak" with his work clothes. He works as a technician and gets all sorts of things on his clothes. Chemicals, grease, coffee, you name it! Here's a picture just after the washer finished filling up. The clothes hadn't even sat for very long yet and it was already black! After we did a soak, the washing machine was surprizingly clean! There was actually a little grime line at the max water level.
I'd highly reccommend Rockin Green to everyone, even if you don't cloth diaper. It's a great, natural, dye free, has no fillers, no enzymes or optical brighteners, is 100% Phosphate free, and vegan way to do laundry!
